Description
This is a monument to Gilbert Leigh who died while sheep hunting on September 14, 1884. It was erected by local ranchers in his memory. This sandstone monument can be seen from US Hwy 16 in the turnout below. Running to the monument requires a tough out-and-back run, but the views from the monument are simply breathtaking!
All-Day Run: To view the monument from the highway, pull into the turnoff on US Hwy 16. There is a sign board with a brief history of the monument. To see the monument itself, a 14-mile round-trip, strenuous run is required. For trail details, see the Leigh Monument Out-and-Back featured run.
