Description
This trail starts from the southern-most parking area in the Island in the Sky District, called the Grand View Point Overlook. From the parking area, the easily accessible views are, indeed, very grand. But you'll get even better views if you take this trail to the southwest.
The trail is fairly flat, but has a few rocks/steps you'll have to navigate. These should be easy for a runner, but it means the trail isn't accessible for those with limited mobility (at least not after a short distance). Most of the trail follows the southern ledge of the Island in the Sky and offers exquisite views to the south and east.
At about three quarters of a mile the trail will near the northern edge of the rock "peninsula" and begin to offer amazing views to the north and west. At the end of the trail, there are some small rock formations you can scramble onto from which you'll have 360-degrees views, all of which are postcard worthy. Enjoy the distant Green River, Colorado River, Junction Butte, and, of course, the Monument Basin.
Return the way you came.
