The Affeldt Climb trail is a gentle climb away from the Patapsco into the hills to the southwest. The path follows a small stream just above a small gorge, allowing for a gradual slope and mostly smooth path. There are occasionally shallow dips along the way but they are not very steep. The forest understory in this area is rather open aside from a carpet of switchgrass, creating an interesting view as you follow the path in the warmer months.
